Commuter Services

In an effort to meet the unique needs of commuter students, the office of Student Life will be implementing some new initiatives during the 2006 - 2007 school year:

Commuters At Riverside (C.A.R.) Student Organization

In an effort to further assist commuter students in establishing a supportive network of peers, developing friends and being socially connected to the UCR campus, attempts are being made to form a new commuter student organization. Students interested in participating in the C.A.R. student organization should contact Student Life. The organization will have officers who will be responsible for planning meetings and activities for the membership to further reach the needs of commuter students. Email chasene@ucr.edu

UCR Commuter Resource Guide

A resource guide specifically for commuters has also been developed. To learn more about ideal study areas on campus, the location and hours of the various food venues, parking details and other valuable information, click here.

Commuter Programming Assistants (CPA)

The Commuter Programming Assistants Initiative is a unique program that targets walking commuters in the densely populated centers around campus.  The apartment complexes are filled with students that are both part of the university community, as well as their respective apartment community.  The Commuter Programming Assistants (CPA) will be selected students in each apartment complex to act as a programming liaison and mentor to the rest of the living community.

In return for these services to the university and apartment complexes, each CPA will receive free rent within their apartment complex.  If you are interested in becoming a CPA click here to view the job description.  For an application, please contact chasene@ucr.edu.

UCR Commuter Pit-Stops

The Commuter Pit-Stop is targeted at the UCR students who drive significant distances to come to campus.  The program basically functions like a meet and greet information portal to commuter students.
At the Pit-Stop, students can access information and services that they might not have known they had as commuter students.  Information presented at the Pit-Stop booths are unique commuter based services that directly affect the UCR Commuter.  It is generally the first Wednesday and Thursday of every month.  Come by for a Pit-Stop, grab a donut and some coffee.

Commuter Orientation

At the beginning of each year, Student Life offers a specialized orientation targeted specifically at commuter students.  This particular orientation is very effective at addressing some of those very important concerns so many commuter students have.

Commuter Friendly Student Organizations

Joining a student organization and getting involved has never been easier!  The plight of the commuter student is over!  Student Life has compiled a list of organizations that meet during the day!  Now you can go to a meeting and get involved while you're here on campus.  To view a list of the commuter friendly student organizations, click here.
