Student Life Mission

Student Life is dedicated to the education and development of UCR’s diverse student body and to creating a meaningful, learning centered campus life for students at the University. Student Life works in active partnership with student, faculty, and staff colleagues to foster and support student opportunities for learning, involvement, leadership, community building, and creative expression that complement classroom experiences. Student Life further supports student organizations and their leaders, and they in turn provide programs and resources to the student body and the wider University community.

Structure
There are two primary program areas in Student Life which provide a number of programs and services to students.

Campus Activities and First Year Programs (CAFYP)

The Campus Activities & First Year Programs is comprised of the following: Orientation programs such as Bear Facts Orientation for new students, Bear Tracks Transition program for transfer students, and campus-wide events and first year success programs. These programs are designed to enrich student life, assist with the transition to UCR, prepare students for academic excellence, provide campus entertainment, promote student volunteerism and prepare students to be leaders in their communities.

Student Organization Leadership, Advising and Resources (SOLAR)

The SOLAR Program seeks to provide comprehensive support and assistance to student organizations. This includes assistance with University recognition, recruitment, program and event planning, major event management, accessing University resources, understanding and negotiating University policies and procedures, organizational development and enhancement, fundraising, promotion and marketing, and communication. Specific program components include: Organization Registration Orientations and processing, Bear Facts Orientation Activities Expo, Activities Fair, Block Party Booth registrations, International Food Faire, Student Organization Retreats, SOLAR Topical Workshops, Publication of the Student Organization Handbook and other resource materials for organizations and their advisors. In collaboration with the Office of Student Judicial Affairs, the SOLAR Program staff members participate in student organization judicial procedures and monitoring of judicial sanctions for organizations.
